A Trip into History (26 km)
The countryside surrounding Almas House is full of history and exciting places within a few kilometers. The 26-kilometer route takes you into the beautiful East Funen countryside. If you have your bike with you, have a nice trip - if not, both routes are an experience, regardless of whether it's on foot, by car, or by bike.
Ørbæk Church
Ørbæk Church houses many fascinating frescoes. The church’s most famous fresco was covered in 1932, as it was deemed too offensive. The image, which depicts a devil-like figure being milked or tapped by a witch, is once again visible on the church wall today.
St Regisse Spring
St Regisse Spring is one of Funen’s most famous holy springs. Throughout the ages, it has been visited by those seeking respite from illness and frailty. Legend has it that the christian Regisse, martyred for her faith, birthed a sacred spring where her blood flowed.
The town of Svindinge and its church
Since the 16th century, Svindinge’s history has been inextricably linked with that of Glorup Manor. The then owner, Christoffer Valkendorf, built Svindinge Church, which today is one of very few Renaissance churches in Denmark. Opposite the church is the “Foundation”, which was built as a residence for the weakest members of society.
Glorup
During the 16th century, Glorup became the epicentre of an ambitious project. The manor gathered its farms around the estate, a new main building was built, and stone walls were constructed around the manor’s lands. In the 1800s, Glorup was graced with a magnificent park, which can still be experienced to this day.
The railway bridge in Langå
The railway from Nyborg-Svendborg passed through Langå. In 1933, a concrete arch bridge was built under the track. The railway bridge is decorated with illustrations from the history of Langå.
Langå Church
Langå Church houses a large number of well-preserved frescoes. One of them depicts a female figure ensnared from behind by a sinister, claw-bearing demonic creature. The fresco is thought to illustrate an age-old tale of a tormented maiden from Rygaard.
Kongshøj Mill
Established in 1853, Kongshøj Mill harnessed the power of water to drive forging, sawing and filing workshops, allowing the mill to handle the entire production process from iron and wood to finished scythes and spades. In late 1895, the mill shifted its focus to flour production. Throughout the 1900s, it underwent another transformation, evolving into a facility for generating electricity.
The old fire pump house in Frørup
Frørup Sprøjtehus – the fire pump house – was built in 1900. Situated on its original site beside the church, the fire pump house is one of only three such preserved structures in Nyborg Municipality.
