The Danehof Festival 2025 kicks off this Friday! You will find Friday's festive programme below.

Play & Camp on Nyborg Ramparts              

14.00-19.00: Activities and stalls are open
Play and learn lots of exciting experiences from the Middle Ages.

14.00-19.00: The St. Mads' Spring Market
Enjoy plenty of family-friendly activities as the St. Mads' Spring Market comes to Nyborg.

14.00-19.00: Archery and crossbow shooting
Test your skills on the bow and the crossbow - how well can you hit the target?
Price: DKK 20 per person.

14.00-19.00: The Warriors' Camp
Experience the exciting camp life and listen to stories about war and everyday life in the Middle Ages.

14.00-15.00: Combat Show by the Saint Laurentius Fratrum
Witness the Warriors of the Saint Laurentius' Brotherhood showcase fierce combat with weapons and armor, and even test your skills against the armored fighters!

15.00-18.00: Hair Braiding and Combat School
Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) tailored to all skill levels using steel, wooden, or foam weapons. Stop by the experienced medieval stylist, offering both authentic and fantasy-inspired braids and updos.

 

Borgmestergården

14.00-19.00: Kids' Treasure Hunt
Join the Danehof Treasure Hunt and see how many "Eagle Tokens" you can spot. The more you discover, the more gold coins await you at Borgmestergården!

14.30: Fýri in Concert
Experience Fýri as they perform and bring alive, including the historical 16th-century ballad "The Eagle Ballad" with authentic attire, strong singing, and evocative sounds from ancient instruments at Borgmestergården.

15.30: Funny tales with Mikkel Langbue
The storyteller Mikkel Langbue entertains children and childish souls with the tale of "The Eagle Ballad" at Borgmestergården.

18.00: Danehof dance for all
Take a spin and dance along in the Danehof dance at Borgmestergården.

 

Tournament Square

16.00-19.00: Horse carriage ride in the medieval Nyborg
Experience Nyborg from a horse-drawn carriage. Ticket price: DKK 25 per person.

16.30: Opening speech
The procession ends at the Tournament Square and Frederic 1. welcomes and tells about this year's Danehof.

17.00: Impressive falconry show
Experience an amazing falconry display featuring the graceful Harris's Hawk and the powerful falcon in action! You can also get acquainted with the birds at their tent within the festival grounds. Purchase a seat ticket for the grandstand at danehof.dk for DKK 30. There is free access to the accessible grandstand.

 

The Bards’ Square

14.00-19.00: The DaneLounge and Board Game Cafe at Nyborg Library
Put on medieval attire and explore the Middle Ages in Nyborg Library's DaneLounge, or gather your friends for the open board game café and enjoy games such as Kingdomino, Castle Builder, or Carcassonne.

14.00-19.00: Hobby Horse Arena
Practice with your hobby horse for the great jousting tournament in the library's garden.

14.00-19.00: Kids' Treasure Hunt
Join the Danehof Treasure Hunt and see how many "Eagle Tokens" you can spot. The more you discover, the more gold coins await you at Borgmestergården!

14.00-19.00: Open workshop - Decorate Your Own Wooden Shield
Add your own personal flair to your shield and prepare for combat!

15.30: Juggling with Maximus Heratikus
Come and see the Medieval court joker, Maximus Heratikus’ pranks and juggling.

The Castle Islet

14.00: Talk on the Medieval Appearance of the Castle
Talk on the Medieval Appearance of Nyborg Castle by the Head of the Archaeological Department at the Museums of East Funen; Claus Frederik Sørensen.

 

The Market Town and Castle Market

10.00-18.00: The town's shops are open
Explore the many shops in the city and taste all the unique Danehof specialties.

14.00-19.00: The market stalls in Slotsgade are open

16.00: Grand Parade
King Frederick I and Queen Sophie of Pomerania arrive in Nyborg, their new city of residence - the Danehof City. The procession moves through the town to showcase their grandeur and magnificence and to greet the townspeople.

 

Food Market

14.00-19.00: The food area is open
Experience the food area and explore the many exciting food stalls. Here you will find popcorn, soft ice, churros, coffee and cake, savory pancakes, roasted pork sandwiches, sausages and many other delicious things.

Vor Frue Church

18.30-19.30: Historical Pub Crawl (sold out)
Take a trip around the city's backyards and the church's basement and get the story of the medieval interaction between church, merchant, and king. Beer and dram with historical roots will be served during the tour. Tickets cost DKK 275 and can be purchased here.

Danehof at Nyborg Castle

In the Middle Ages, the Danish king met with his parliament, Danehoffet, in Nyborg. Now Nyborg is holding the Danehof again. The town buzzes with life, just as it did when the king and his men met for the Danehof. There will be longships, processions, battles, stalls, culinary delights, music and entertainment for children and adults alike all weekend.
