12 Rasmus Møllers Gård in Nyborg

12 Rasmus Møllers Gård, Nørregade 1

Rasmus Møller was an enterprising and later a very rich merchant. He was the son of a miller from Rønninge, but came to live in the house of Hans Nielsen, who taught him the merchant’s trade. Rasmus Møller inherited his foster father’s business and house in Nørregade, which burned down in 1797. With his own money and the insurance he rebuilt the property.

He and his captains brought home many valuable and elegant objects from their numerous voyages. The walls of the house are decorated with several motifs from Nyborg. Johan Jakob Encke was responsible for the architecture of Rasmus Møllers large mansion – today occupied by the Office of the Court and the Public Notary.
